Hamilton is not disappointed by the missed pole

Lewis Hamilton has said McLaren have no reason to be disappointed after narrowly missing out on pole position in qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix. The Woking team has in fact greatly reduced the gap to Red Bull. Sebastian Vettel only achieved pole on the last lap of Q3, beating Hamilton by a tenth.

“I don't think we can be disappointed,” Hamilton said. “Compared to the last race we closed the gap and did a fantastic job. I'm proud of the work done by the team who brought new components here too, we can be happy. It would have been fantastic to be on pole but these guys (Vettel and Webber, ed.) still have a small margin. The lap wasn't perfect so I need to improve in this aspect. We expected that in qualifying they would still have a bit of an advantage, especially on the last run they always tend to pull something out of the hat, and they showed a bit stronger pace at the end of Q3. On my lap I lost a bit of time in a corner so I can't be too disappointed,” concluded Hamilton.
