F1 | McLaren, Brown in favor of the restructuring plan promoted by Liberty: "The model currently in use is no longer valid"

In a chat given to the columns of Autosport, Zak Brown returned to talk about the relationship between the teams and Liberty Media, underlining how McLaren is absolutely in favor of the restructuring plan promoted by Chase Carey and Ross Brawn.

According to the manager of the Woking team, in fact, the Circus desperately needs a relaunch plan, especially with regards to business, given that the current model is creating too large an economic difference between the various teams.

The plan presented in Bahrain, precisely in this sense, offers several valid ideas, including the budget cap, and the US manager hopes that an agreement can soon be reached to implement all these changes.

Here are Zak Brown's ratings: “We know that change in Formula 1 is difficult. The model used nowadays is broken, especially when it comes to the business part, which is why it is right to study changes for the future. Clearly those who are winning today will want a compromise, while those who are in difficulty will aim for substantial changes. Precisely in this sense it was inevitable that Liberty Media would carry out a plan that was more or less acceptable to everyone."

“The objective, considering this aspect, must be to study a valid plan for the future of Formula 1 and which serves the interests of this sport”, he added. “We must move forward keeping this aspect in mind. If we improve sport, we also improve everyone's condition and I believe this is a fundamental step. Today's Formula 1, without changes, is a road that takes us nowhere."

On the draft regulation presented in Bahrain he concluded: “I think most teams are in favor of what was presented in Bahrain. At McLaren we agree with what is offered and I believe that Liberty will move forward taking that basis as a starting point."
