Briatore: "Brawn is headed towards the title"

Brawn GP is in a very favorable position to win the 2009 world championship. At least this is what Flavio Briatore, the outspoken Renault team manager who first denounced the illegality of the Brackley team's speakers and then contested the credibility of its riders to fight for this year's world title. When asked by the German newspaper Die Welt if he believes in the possibility that Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, currently on 29,5 and 18 points respectively in the world championship after five races, could be caught up Briatore replied: “No. In F1 almost anything is possible, but I think it is very difficult for any other team to win the title. They have funding and can make further developments to their car without problems, and this is a problem for the competition,” added the Italian.

Despite the peculiar characteristics of this weekend's Grand Prix in Monaco, Brawn GP boss Ross Brawn believes in a strong performance from his team on the streets of the street circuit. “The car is very strong from a mechanical point of view, a necessary characteristic to exploit the low speed of the circuit,” said the Briton, underlining that although none of his drivers have ever won in Monaco, both have already won on the podium.
