European GP, Sauber: Nasr advances to Q2, Ericsson 20th

In Baku, in qualifying for the European GP, Sauber managed to access Q2 with Felipe Nasr, while Marcus Ericsson was eliminated in the first heat of the session. The Brazilian - author of an excellent Q1 - will start from 16th place tomorrow. The Swede, however, slowed down by traffic, recorded the 20th fastest time, also touching the barriers at Turn 7 in his last available attempt. Ericsson will start ahead of the Renaults of Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer.

"Overall it was a good qualification – declared Nasr satisfied –  first of all, I want to thank the whole team. In qualifying we managed to beat the Renaults and the Manors, which is a great thing. Today I pushed the car to the limit and the team did a good job. We can be happy with what we did in Q2. The performances we want to achieve are still far away, but it is already a step forward. We will continue to fight tomorrow in the race”.

"It was a disappointing session for me – Ericsson's comment – I had some traffic with both the first and second set of tyres. On my last attempt I was pushing hard and went over the limit. Being a city track, it is easy to graze the barriers. Touching the barriers in turn 7 I lost some time on the fastest lap. Despite a disappointing qualifying, I want to thank the mechanics: they worked hard this weekend to allow me to get on track in the best conditions. Tomorrow I will give my best for them too".
