Ecclestone: “FOTA is a useless association”
The patron of the F1 Bernie Ecclestone he labeled it “useless”. FOTA (Formula One Teams' Association), insisting that he is the one who best takes care of the financial aspects.
FOTA was established in 2008 to provide a common voice for all teams. In 2009 he struggled with the FIA to cap team spending, and in 2010 threatened Ecclestone with creating an alternative category. An agreement was reached and from there relations were all in all rather harmonious.
In an interview for the official F1 website, when asked about his opinion of FOTA, the owner replied: "I try not to think about them."
“It's a useless association of people who should be concentrating their efforts on making competitive cars on the starting grid. There are more things they don't have to think about. I take care of the financial resources and there are enough of them."
