Spin as much as possible to get in tune with a completely new track. This is the main objective of Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow on the first day of the Qatar Grand Prix. The data accumulated in the 104 laps covered in two hours by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will therefore be even more important than usual to prepare the rest of the weekend in every detail. What is certain is that there is still a lot of work to do, both in terms of set-up and tire management, especially that of the softer compound.

FP1. In the first session - which took place in completely different conditions to those found in qualifying and the race - Ferrari was the second team in terms of number of laps under their belt with 53: 26 for Carlos and 27 for Charles. The riders started the session on Medium rubber, improving progressively: Leclerc achieved a 1'25"617, while Sainz stopped the clocks at 1'26"045. In the second part of the session, Soft tires were fitted with which the Spaniard set a time of 1'24"713, sixth best time, immediately followed in the standings by the Monegasque in 1'24"790.

FP2. In the second session, which started at 17pm, the work focused more on setting up the car, both over the single lap and over the distance. Both drivers started on the Hard tyre, with which Charles clocked 1'25”280 and Carlos dropped to 1'24”914. In the second part of the session, Soft tires were then fitted with which both the Spaniard and the Monegasque improved: Sainz (author of 28 laps) clocked 1'24"033, while Leclerc (23) achieved 1'24" 095. The last free practice session is scheduled for tomorrow at 14pm local time (12pm CET), while qualifying will start at 17pm (15pm CET).
