Formula 1 | Bottas on Zhou's debut season: “Good at not making mistakes”

In a long chat given to the columns of motorsport.com, Valtteri Bottas commented on the debut season of Guanyu-Zhou in Alfa Romeo, highlighting how the Chinese managed not to make too many mistakes despite his lack of experience behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car. The former representative of the Renault Academy, race after race, managed to acquire not only awareness, but also a good analytical ability, an aspect that allowed him to confirm his seat for the 2023 season too, always alongside the Finnish ex-Mercedes.

“He didn't make many mistakes and this was one of his strong points,” said the Finn from Biscione. “This is a quality that is often not found in a rookie, also because our sport is complex and often forces us to give 110%. A situation that can lead to mistakes."

“But he managed to grow gradually, without wanting things too quickly,” he continued. “He progressed race after race, both on Saturday and Sunday. As time went by he acquired the right awareness and also in terms of set-up it was nice to appreciate his progress."

Obviously there was a reference to the personal relationship between the two: “We are an excellent pair of companions and we have respect for each other. We can work very well and it is something very important for the team."
