F1 | 2023 calendar, Turkey is also in the running for the slot left "vacant" by China

F1 | 2023 calendar, Turkey is also in the running for the slot left "vacant" by China

China's farewell has generated a direct challenge for the once again "vacant" slot within the world calendar for the 2023 season. According to what was reported by various international media, among the tracks in competition there would be not only Portimao, but also 'Istanbul Park, a circuit inaugurated way back in 2005 and returned to the Formula 1 scene in 2020, a year characterized by the pandemic and the remodulation of the calendar due to Covid19.

Turkey is apparently working secretly with some sponsors to secure not only the budget necessary to return to the championship on a permanent basis, but also for the place recently "given up" by China. An interesting situation that the plant managers want to make the most of.

China, we recall, has decided not to host the Grand Prix in Shanghai for the fourth consecutive year, above all due to the anti-Covid regulations which prevent the country from hosting major events such as Formula 1, and Liberty Media is apparently evaluating alternatives for the “free” slot between Australia (4/04) and Azerbaijan (30/4).

At the moment Portugal and Turkey seem to be the main favourites, but also pay attention to the interest of Malaysia, whose desire is to return to the Circus after leaving in 2017.
