GP in Mexico from 2013 instead of Valencia?

F1 will return to Mexico in 2013, a Spanish sports newspaper claims.

Marca newspaper claims that the Mexican race will take place at the 'Hermanos Rodriguez' circuit in Mexico City, which was the scene of the last Mexican Grand Prix in 1992. According to the report, the race is supported by many sponsors linked to the driver Sauber Sergio Perez, including Telmex, Interproteccion, Tequila Cuervo and the Mexican Ministry of Tourism. “The sponsors are willing to support the Grand Prix that will replace Valencia”, wrote journalist Jose Maria Rubio. The article states that a contract would be signed with Bernie Ecclestone to contest the race for an initial period of five years.

“Renovation works on the circuit should begin as soon as the elections are held in July”, Rubio continued. “Everything should be ready by mid-next year”. The Mexican GP was held from 1963 to 1970 and from 1986 to 1992. Ferrari won there twice, in '70 and '90 with Jackie Ickx and Alain Prost. The last edition was won by Nigel Mansell with Williams, and here Michael Schumacher achieved the first of 154 career podiums.
