F1 | Renault difficulties, Abiteboul admits: "We carry with us some critical issues from the Lotus period"

Interviewed by Auto Hebdo magazine, Cyril Abiteboul spoke about the difficulties faced by the Renault team during the last season, underlining how the French team analyzed and understood the technical critical issues that emerged during 2019.

According to the Team Principal, in fact, Renault analyzed the poor performances of the last championship very carefully, studying and implementing countermeasures. An important analysis, loudly requested above all by Daniel Ricciardo, which should help the transalpine team to improve the situation as early as 2020.

“We had a great driver and an excellent engine this year, which is why we can't hide,” said the Frenchman. “The positive side of this championship is that we understood our problems and managed to find solutions. We know where to intervene to improve."

On the problems that emerged in 2019 he added: “These imperfections were already present in 2018, but we didn't pay much attention to them, given that two years ago we managed to finish the championship in a better position than the previous season. The slowdown we had in 2019 made us discover some critical issues that we had been carrying with us from the Lotus period."
