Wurz: “Webber should accept No.2 status”

Mark Webber should accept being a well-paid number two at Red Bull. This is the opinion of former F1 driver, Alex Wurz, who intervened in the "Multi-21" controversy of the Malaysian GP.

According to some former drivers, including Jacques Villeneuve, the responsibility for the incident lies entirely with Sebastian Vettel, clearly the number 1 in Red Bull.

And on Webber's frustration, Wurz said: “He has a double-digit million salary which helps him live with these things. If he thinks another team could treat him better, then he should go,” Wurz told Spox. “But at the moment I think I have to swallow the bitter pill. After all, he's on a team that can win him races. If he is lucky and Vettel is not, maybe he could even win the title. Otherwise, he plays second, makes some money and is one of the stars of the show. Easy!" the 39-year-old reiterated.

Even at Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton seems to have taken on the role of first driver: "I don't think so" commented Wurz. “Rosberg and his management will certainly ask for explanations. They will ask if a hierarchy was established or if it was a spontaneous decision based on logic. Maybe Brawn didn't think about the friction the decision would create."

The former Toyota driver, Allan McNish, has an opposite opinion, for whom Hamilton's status is clear: “Even if it is not official, there is certainly a strong focus on Hamilton to bring him to fight for the title. They welcomed him with open arms and are definitely embracing him at the moment.”
