Red Bull, Ricciardo returns to the Sochi strategy: "The choice to use the mediums penalized us"

A few days later, Daniel Ricciardo returned to the (incorrect) strategy that influenced Red Bull's Russian Grand Prix. Compared to the competition, the Milton Keynes team was the only one to fit medium compound tires (the hardest compound brought to Sochi by Pirelli) on both single-seaters.

A decision dictated by the carambola generated at the braking point of the long initial straight, which saw the two RB12s and Sebastian Vettel's Ferrari as protagonists: "We tried something different because of the accident at the first corner – Ricciardo declared to Motorsport.com – . This forced the team to adopt a different strategy, which did not bring good results".

The strategy adopted by the Anglo-Austrian team did not give the desired results, with both drivers outside the points. Ricciardo finished the GP 11th, while Kvyat did not go beyond 15th place. Furthermore, both the Australian and the Russian were forced to make a further stop during the race.

“From that moment – continued the Perth pilot – our race was an ordeal, we tried to adopt a conservative strategy, but the car slipped a lot. The type of tire used didn't help us recover. Our race ended after the first corner. Such a pity. Time dwe have to think about the next race. We must no longer make these mistakes".
