Massa: “A good race, shame about that problem in the pits”

Felipe Massa is satisfied with the fifth place achieved with Ferrari at the Formula 1 European Grand Prix. The Brazilian could have fought for fourth place with Lewis Hamilton but was penalized by a problem during the second tire change.

“It was a good race, always spent fighting with opponents. I tried to make the most of the Option tires because we feared that, with the Primes, our pace might not be up to par" explained Massa.

“It's a shame about that problem at the second pit stop, when I lost those four or five seconds which cost me the chance to fight for fourth place with Hamilton. I believe that, based on what we saw in terms of performance, today we should have placed both cars ahead of the McLarens, an objective only half achieved. I started very well, overtaking Hamilton and Fernando. Then I also tried to attack Webber but he closed the door on me and we were almost touching, so Fernando had the chance, passing to the outside, to overtake me. I had some problems with the second set of soft tires but with the next one, which was even more used, things went much better. In the end, even the Mediums weren't that bad and we managed to run competitive times. Now the Silverstone event awaits us. We'll see if we can confirm the progress seen in these last three races. The choice that Pirelli makes in terms of tires will also be important: it is clear that if we were to opt for the Medium/Hard combination it will be more difficult for us" added the Ferrari driver.
