Lotus, Quesnel vying for the role of team principal

The former competition director of Citroen and Peugeot, Olivier Quesnel, would be in the running for the role of team principal of Lotus in Formula 1. After the farewell of Eric Boullier, who moved to McLaren, according to the newspaper L'Equipe, Quesnel would be the favorite to replace the Frenchman while the role was temporarily assumed by Gerard Lopez of Genii, majority shareholder of the team.

Quesnel has long experience in motorsport. In the early 80s he created the Peugeot Talbot Sport division together with Jean Todt. He later took on various roles in motorsport, including managing the weekly magazine Auto Hebdo.

In 2008 he was hired by Citroen Racing to replace Guy Frequelin and immediately won the WRC in 2009 with Sebastian Loeb's dominance lasting until 2012.

At the end of 2008, Quesnel led PSA Peugeot Citroen's 24 Hours of Le Mans program leading the team to victory in 2009. He left Citroen Racing in 2012.

He was then hired as Director of Activities of JN Holding Group, leading different projects related to endurance and motorsport championships.

The other candidate for the role of Lotus team principal is former McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh. Lotus has announced that a decision has not yet been made on who will lead the team at the upcoming tests in Bahrain.
