Hamilton: “The title is still possible for me”

Lewis Hamilton wins in Hungary and is now fourth in the Drivers' Championship, 47 points behind leader Fernando Alonso.

The McLaren driver's second victory of the season came after a run of three races in which he had scored just four points, but the triumph at the Hungaroring and the Ferrari driver's fifth place reduced the championship gap from 62 to 47 points. “This weekend shows that the season still has to be played”, Hamilton said. “I'm not too many points behind Fernando. If we can continue this type of performance we can achieve it. But we need consistency in results and we still need to improve the car in many areas and I'm sure we will do so."

The Englishman admitted that it was psychologically important to return to the top step of the podium before the summer break. “It's nice to go on holiday knowing that we achieved a victory, it's a great feeling. It's very, very important, when you win like this when you're put under a lot of pressure from great drivers like Kimi and Romain, this is the kind of day where you have to have your mind one hundred percent focused.", He insisted. “I feel great, because the team didn't bat an eyelid and neither did I. They were great, if they had been ahead in qualifying it would have been difficult to overtake them. But none of them were ever really close, I closed the corners in such a way that they had tire problems and I carved out enough of an advantage to be in the lead in the last three corners.", concluded the Briton.
