Alonso: “A positive result in Hungary”

The Ferrari driver with 5th place gains points on Webber

Despite not being brilliant at the Hungaroring, Ferrari gets reasons to smile before the summer break, even if there will be work to do ahead of Spa and Monza
Alonso: “A positive result in Hungary”

Fernando Alonso finishes the Hungarian GP with a fifth place, an excellent result from a championship perspective: the Ferrari driver manages to gain on the second in the standings, Mark Webber, who finished eighth, and those who finished ahead of him (Hamilton, Vettel and Raikkonen ) you are virtually stealing points.

“It's a positive result, there's no doubt about it”, commented the Spaniard. “We knew it would be a complicated weekend because we weren't fast enough but, despite everything, we managed to extend the lead over Webber. From the perspective of the championship it is therefore a very good weekend. Being able to finish in front of one Red Bull and immediately behind the other in conditions like these was important because, on paper, the placing we deserved was seventh. Hamilton was unattainable for us this weekend but we didn't lose much ground on Vettel and these are, in my opinion, the strongest rivals in the group behind me in the standings.".

However, Ferrari can play defensively, they didn't do anything wrong in Budapest: “We made the right choices in terms of strategy: it's true that I lost some time behind Perez and this cost me the position compared to Raikkonen but the Finn was probably out of reach this afternoon. We have a gift of forty points, accumulated with a car that has not been the best in this first part of the season". However, Alonso warns of the need to continue working on the development of the car. “Now we will have to try to make a big leap in terms of performance to allow us to keep the lead in the Championship because what we have now, in the long run, will not be enough. If we got to this point it was because we always got the best out of what we had available and because we had an excellent level of reliability: 23 consecutive finishes in the points are not by chance.".

Finally, a thought about the holidays: “July was a tough and stressful month, with three races and a lot of work in the factory. Now I want to take a break to fully recharge my batteries and return to Spa prepared, with the hope that the second part of the season will be as positive and productive as the first. There are five weeks of time to rest and work, thinking about the future, starting with two very demanding races like those in Spa and Monza.", insisted the Asturian.
