Silverstone Grand Prix, Kimi Raikkonen: “I like this circuit, we hope to win again”

Ferrari – For its tenth stage, Formula 1 returns to the historic Silverstone track, where it all began in 1950 with the first race of the new category. In the sixty-six years that have passed since the first race of the World Championship, the Northamptonshire circuit has changed its face several times until arriving at its current configuration, perhaps not the favorite of Kimi Raikkonen and his race engineer David Greenwood.

Kimi, in fact, liked the old track more than the current one: “For me it was smoother and more complete, as it should have been. The new one isn't bad either, it allows more overtaking, but if I had the choice I would go back to the original design. I think the new track is fast. There are some slow corners, but the old track was smoother, whereas now the new part isn't as smooth. In the past I had some good races here, I got on the podium several times. I like this circuit, we hope to win again."

Its track engineer, David Greenwood, also has many memories of the old Silverstone: “It's one of the first circuits where I was a child and attended as a spectator. The track today has changed considerably and the addition of the Wellington Straight has made it longer, but it retains many of the old features and still requires good aerodynamic efficiency. In recent years the track puts the rear tires to the test more than the front and, in general, wear is quite balanced between the four tyres. For this reason the strategy becomes quite interesting. The weather can also play an interesting role, we saw it last year in the middle of the race, we'll see what happens this year..."
