Formula 1 | McLaren shines in the wet with Norris. Plate Problems

La McLaren can smile at the pole position achieved by Lando Norris in the Sprint qualifications of Chinese Grand Prix. The English driver, in fact, will start ahead of everyone tomorrow in the Sprint Race, which we remind you will start at 5 Italian. In a wet Shanghai in SQ3, the Briton managed to do better than everyone else, despite some errors due mostly to the asphalt being too slippery. He instead was a little disappointed Oscar Piastri only eighth but with some technical problems on his MCL38.

“It was an intense session conditioned by the weather – said Andrea Stella, McLaren team principal. Impending rain in the first two sessions of Sprint Qualifying left us waiting, then it finally arrived at the end of the second, with the third wet. We needed to be ready, operational and put in clean laps in difficult conditions, and that's what the drivers and teams did today. I have to praise Lando's brilliant driving in SQ3, when the grip was very low on the intermediate tyres, and it was difficult to stay out of trouble and understand where to put the wheels."

“It was a shame that Oscar had a problem, blocking under braking, and then with the gearbox, which caused him to lose acceleration and a lot of time exiting the hairpin. He could have been higher in the rankings. Nonetheless, this is a good starting position for tomorrow's Sprint Race, with two cars that can score important points. We will have to be ready for anything, because it seems like there is still some uncertain weather around here, but so far everything has gone well this weekend."
