Ferrari, difficult to draw conclusions after Friday at Silverstone

The British GP is a special race for Ferrari which achieved the first of its 215 successes in Formula 1 right here at Silverstone: on 14 July 1951 José Froilan Gonzalez won in the second edition of this race valid for the World Championship of Formula 1.

“Sixty years have passed and Ferrari is the only team that can say it has participated in every edition of the greatest automotive competition” – declared Stefano Domenicali – “After that success many others have arrived and, with them, 31 titles world champions (16 Manufacturers, 15 Drivers) who contributed to making this team something unique in the world. We strongly want to enrich this series of victories as soon as possible: it is the goal of all the men and women who work at Maranello and we know that it is what our fans expect from us."

Felipe Massa ended Friday free practice at Silverstone with the best time while Fernando Alonso was only 15th.

“It was a day marked by weather conditions, with the track never really being dry” commented Pat Fry. “The primary objective was to try to reconcile our program today, in particular the evaluation of the new aerodynamic solutions that we brought to this circuit, with weather conditions that were certainly not favorable and stable. As far as possible we succeeded and, from what we could see from an initial analysis, the data is consistent with our expectations. Both drivers, like several of their colleagues, only used one set of intermediate tyres: I imagine that the spectators would have preferred to see more cars on the track for longer, especially in the afternoon, but we have to take into account the limited number of tires available for the entire race weekend. If, as seems possible, tomorrow we have similar conditions to today, having new wet tires will be very important. It's obvious that it's very difficult to draw conclusions regarding the balance of power on the pitch at the end of a day like this: we know what we can do but we don't know where the others are."
