F1 | Jean Todt: “2008 Singapore GP rigged, there's no doubt about it”

During this now concluded season, the Singapore Grand Prix 2008, rigged by Renault to allow Alonso to win thanks to the accident of Nelson Piquet Jr. at the time teammate of the Spanish champion. At the beginning of the year, Bernie Ecclestone he admitted as the "bosses" of the time, i.e. him, Max mosley (FIA president) e Charlie whiting (race director) were fully aware of the blunders made by the French team, but nothing was done to safeguard the image of Formula 1.

After so many years then, Felipe Massa reopened the discussion, asking for the cancellation of that race and the reallocation of the world championship, given that Piquet's accident, for those few who didn't know, forced the Brazilian Ferrari to a pit stop that later went wrong with the fuel filler remaining stuck to his F2008. Jean Todt, at the time part of the Scuderia's board of directors (he was no longer the team principal, ed.) he was recently interviewed by La Stampa, and has his own clear version of what happened.

“I don't want to get into controversy – Todt said – but for Felipe it was very hard psychologically. Perhaps we could have been harsher at the time when the story became public knowledge, but there is no doubt that the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix was rigged, and Formula 1 should have canceled it."
