F1 | Yamamoto talks about the development of the Honda power unit for the 2022 season

In an interview granted to racingnews365.com, Masashi Yamamoto explained the development that Honda will follow for the power unit that Red Bull and AlphaTauri will use in 2022, specifying how the project will only be adapted to the technical regulations that will come into force starting from next year.

According to the CEO of the Japanese engine manufacturer, the power unit for the next world championship will follow the same construction philosophy as this year's, an aspect that should help the "customer" teams to confirm themselves on the same level as Mercedes.

“The power unit will be developed following the scheme of the one used this season, which is itself very different from the project used in 2020”, the Japanese said. “Next year's will be different only because it will have to be adapted to the new regulations, but in fact, especially in terms of construction, it will be the same. Naturally we will do everything possible to guarantee a high level of performance."

“We will support our teams technically with the aim of improving performance on the track and therefore results. In terms of marketing, Honda will make a minimal commitment, but in terms of quality we will try to be on par with Mercedes.", he added.
