F1 | AlphaTauri: here is the difference between a young driver and an expert

THEAlpha Tauri, ever since it was called Toro Rosso it has always been a hotbed of young drivers, who often however have not managed to make a career in Red Bull, except for a few rare exceptions such as Vettel, Verstappen e Ricciardo. This year many riders have passed through the Faenza team, including rookies, very young and experienced riders. Peter Bayer, CEO of what will probably be called Racing Bulls starting in 2024, spoke to Motorsport Total about the difference between having a young driver in the car, in this case Liam Lawson, with a much more experienced one, and obviously this is the case with Daniel Ricciardo, also making a comparison with Oscar Piastri rookie last year but already nice and ready once he sat in the car for the first time.

“Piastri traveled I don't know how many thousands of kilometers before entering Formula 1, he knew everything – Bayer said. He knew the dynamics, the functions of the steering wheel, and that makes a huge difference because he arrives almost ready. We want to use some of our resources to prepare young drivers as best as possible, that's why we are planning a big program for Lawson, Hadjar and maybe even Iwasa. It takes three seasons for a young person to completely adapt to this world, Franz always said this and I fully agree with him."

“Current Formula 1 is very complex: a driver has to digest a lot of information and transmit it to the team, and this takes time. I realized this when we had Liam in the car, because the flow of information changes radically, while with an expert driver like Daniel, he is the one who "feeds" the engineer, who in turn interacts with the operations room. Once a lap he gives feedback, maybe there's a problem with the rear and we do something with the differential and solve it. With a young person everything goes from the operations room to the engineers, to the pit wall and then to the driver in the car, it's quite the opposite."
