F1 | The cancellation of the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka has been official
Suzuka will not host Formula 1 for the second consecutive year
Through a press release published this morning, Liberty Media announced the cancellation of the Japanese Grand Prix, a world event scheduled for October 10th on the Suzuka track.
Despite Honda's commitment and desire to host the race, the organizers clashed with the "rigid" anti-Covid regulations currently present in the country, an aspect which effectively precluded the possibility of staging the event. Suzuka, therefore, for the second consecutive year, will not host the World Circus.
As for the replacement, the chances of seeing a double trip to Austin are growing, with the US track having said it is ready to put together a "double-header" with at least one Grand Prix open to the public. Also on the table is the hypothesis of a return to Bahrain, this time to the Outer Circuit, and a new trip to Doha, specifically to the Losail International Circuit. Liberty will communicate the new calendar in the next few days.
“Following discussions between the promoter and the Japanese authorities, the local government has taken the decision to cancel the Japanese Grand Prix scheduled for October 10 in Suzuka,” reads the official press release. “The decision comes following the complexities generated by the Covid19 pandemic in the country. Formula 1 is now working on a new calendar, which will be announced in the coming weeks."
