F1 | Jack Aitken believes in Williams possibility for 2022

Jack Aitken feels he is in the running for a seat at Williams. Interviewed by Motorsport.com, the current third driver of the Grove team spoke about the possibility of seeing him on the starting grid in 2022, specifying that nothing has yet been decided for next year.

The Englishman's goal, we remember, is to take the wheel currently in the hands of George Russell, given that the Briton seems increasingly headed towards a transfer to Mercedes. To do so, however, he will have to overcome the competition of Nick De Vries, the new reigning Formula E champion, Daniil Kvyat and Stoffel Vandoorne. Also not to be underestimated is the possible return of Nico Hulkenberg after his brief stint at Aston Martin.

“There is a lot of energy in the team and I think important decisions have been made,” said the Englishman. “I've been part of the team for a year and a half. A lot of my work has been in the simulator. I know the direction the car has taken and I know the differences between this year's package and the one for 2022. I'm almost always at the factory to give my contribution. Feedback has always been my strong point, I know what we need to focus on."

“The team said they were satisfied with the work we carried out not only during the Sakhir weekend, but also during the Abu Dhabi tests,” he continued. “Many young riders have shown a huge desire to go hard and that's what I'm trying to show too. Many things are to be defined, obviously, we don't know if there are two, one or zero free seats for now, so I will continue to give my best. I hope Jost does the best for the team. I'm doing some great work for them at the moment."
