F1 | Renault, Daniel Ricciardo: “We just missed out on Q3”

The results of the second free practice session seemed promising for Daniel Ricciardo who, however, in qualifying, didn't even manage to make the cut for Q3. The Australian will start tomorrow from thirteenth position, on the seventh row next to Kimi Raikkonen, in Q2 for the first time this year. Ricciardo probably had what it took to fight for the final session, but he, Kvyat, Vettel, Norris and Albon found themselves separated by thousandths of a second, and only the last two managed to come through and qualify. Daniel misses Q3 by only 0.03s.

"It's a shame that we were all so close and that we had to stop in thirteenth place. We missed out on Q3 by a very narrow margin, there were five of us who were very close – explained Ricciardo – the one in Q2 was a clean lap, but the other teams had something more. We have to find a way tomorrow, and we will push as hard as we can. It will be difficult to overtake, but we will try. It will be very hot, the tires will struggle a lot and we will have to play with the strategy in the race. However, I am still optimistic about the points".
