Formula 1 | Madrid is getting closer, but Barcelona wants to extend beyond 2026

These are days of confirmation for the future of Spanish Grand Prix. The current agreement with the circuit of Montmelo, a Barcelona, expires in 2026, but the rumors they see are increasingly insistent Madrid close to entering formula 1 with a city route. At the moment, however, they are only rumors, which are confirmed, but we have nothing official to give you. On the other hand there is also the government of Catalonia which is doing everything to remain on the calendar in the near future, regardless of whether the event arrives in the Spanish capital or not. Aragonese pears, president of the Generalitat, that is, the administrative-institutional system for the Catalan government has ensured that it has not yet lost hope, continuing to work for an agreement with Formula 1 even beyond 2026.

“Sometimes we in Catalonia are a bit provincial – Aragonès told Radio Catalunya. When someone sneezes, we all turn to look, and it is therefore not necessary to go and see what they are doing elsewhere, because in this country we have many goods and we must claim them. We won't miss anything! If there can be Grands Prix in other places it is good, but we are working with Formula 1 for Montmeló, there is an excellent relationship and we are working to guarantee a Grand Prix here in Catalonia beyond 2026. From that moment on then we will see what can be done elsewhere: when I say that we are provincial it does not mean despising what is done in the state capital, rather enhancing what we have so as not to remain stagnant and see the potential that we can continue to exploit. Relations with Formula 1 are good, we can extend the agreement for a few more years. Ads? Only after the signature, we are doing well, the work continues and the future of Formula 1 at Montmeló will depend on the track and the Circus, not on other external factors."
