F1 | Red Bull, Sergio Perez disappointed by the Austin race
"I wanted more, I know what we did wrong during the weekend" added the Mexican
Sergio Perez closes on Austin Grand Prix crossing the finish line in fifth position. Like his teammate, the Mexican also finished a comeback race from ninth position, but was unable to reach the podium. Overtake the Alpine turns out to be a simple affair, as is overtaking on Oscar piastri. The struggle with, however, turns out to be more complicated Mercedes e Ferrari: Perez plays for position with Russell and the two redheads, but Leclerc let it pass Sainz – who has more – sacrificing himself as expendable prey precisely for Checo's advantage. In the end the Monegasque is disqualified along with Lewis Hamilton, second, thus gaining a position for Perez, fourth in the final classification.
“I wanted more from this race, obviously. In some moments we had a really good pace, but we lack consistency. It was a difficult race, it seems that the Ferraris have improved, but we also made a good step forward compared to Saturday. Overtaking wasn't easy either, especially at the exit of turn 11, it was quite complicated with the wind – explained Checo – there were a couple of occasions where we could have attempted the undercut, we'll review everything after the race. I think I also know what we did wrong during the weekend, so I'm optimistic for the next races. We can learn a lot from this weekend, especially in view of Mexico. There's still some untapped pace in the car and I can't wait to give everything in my home race."
