F1 | Mercedes, Wolff: “We won't find out in Monaco if the new W14 will work”
"It's not a traditional track. We had to react to the superiority of Red Bull", commented the Austrian
Among the innovations that will characterize the next world championship weekend, which will be held in Monte Carlo where the Circus will return to the track after the cancellation of the Imola event, are the important updates that will be present on the Mercedes W14. Sort of real B version of the 2023 Stella single-seater, where a new bottom, a new bodywork will be mounted (the "zero sidepods" concept will disappear) and a new front suspension.
There is therefore anticipation to see the new Mercedes at work, called to reduce the important gap existing from Red Bull, especially by the German team itself as the team principal admitted Toto wolff.
“Obviously we would have liked to see how we would have fared with the new car – Wolff told the Osterreich newspaper – When you completely renew a single-seater, you want to know what it can do. We had to react to Red Bull's superiority. We couldn't find a solution to make the old car fast so we had to rebuild the bottom, bodywork and front suspension."
Wolff then added: “Monaco has nothing to do with a traditional track. That's why we won't find out this weekend if what we changed on the car will work."
