Button: “We simply had the wrong strategy”

Jenson Button criticized McLaren's strategy following their sixth place at the Hungarian GP.

After hovering in third place throughout the first stint of the race, Button was completely ruined by the decision to switch to a three-stop strategy, resulting in him being overtaken by Kimi Raikkonen, Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso. “I don't know why we painted so early every time”, the Englishman complains. “We stopped too early, with the tires still in good condition. I think the team thought we could pass the cars in front, but that didn't happen."

Button was particularly irritated by his long stint behind Bruno Senna's Williams. “We hope to learn well from today and not repeat the strategic mistakes. I think we didn't understand each other, but the car is still there and I congratulate Hamilton. We are not satisfied with the stops, but happy with the level of competitiveness", concluded the Briton.
