Ferrari, Alonso second and Massa fifth in Valencia

Twenty-eight points for Ferrari in the Formula 1 European Grand Prix, the result of second place for Fernando Alonso and fifth for Felipe Massa. It is the best result of the season for the Maranello team, coming at the end of a very close race, as expected on the eve of the race. After the eighth race the positions of the two drivers in the world championship remain unchanged, with Fernando fifth and Felipe sixth, and the Scuderia also maintains third place in the Constructors' championship.

The next appointment is on July 10th at Silverstone, on the circuit where Ferrari won the first of its 215 Grands Prix sixty years ago.

“Our objective cannot help but be victory – we are Ferrari – but today we can say we are all in all satisfied,” he commented Stefano domenicali. “It was an exciting and very tense afternoon: Fernando and Felipe drove a great race, fighting until the end with their direct rivals. The Spaniard, who was racing in front of his fans, managed to stay in front of a Red Bull and achieved a beautiful podium. The only flaw coincided with Felipe's second pit stop, which perhaps cost him the chance to fight until the end for fourth position with Hamilton: in any case he also had a good performance, particularly at the start where he was managed to gain two positions and attack Webber. Now we must continue to push on the development of the car in view of Silverstone, where we want to confirm the progress made even on a circuit with characteristics on paper that are less suitable for the 150° Italia. There we will also understand if anything will change once the FIA's technical recommendation on the use of exhausts comes into force: everyone will lose something in terms of performance, we will see who will pay the highest price" added Domenicali.

“All in all it was a good race for us. On the eve of the day, the objective of our strategy was to reduce the number of laps to be covered with the Primes to the minimum possible, both because we didn't know what to expect and because, from what little we had seen over the weekend, our performance was lower than that of the our main adversaries,” he declared Pat Fry. “Also, there was the traffic factor to consider and the fact that we were not so sure that the effect of the DRS would be sufficient to overtake significantly slower cars. This is why we didn't try to chase the others by always anticipating the pitstop, on the contrary we extended the last stint with the soft tires which, although heavily worn, were faster than the first laps with the Mediums".

“This choice paid off, allowing Fernando to overtake Webber and take home a beautiful second place. Felipe also had a good race: it's a shame about the problem with the left rear wheel nut during his first stop, which caused him to lose a few precious seconds. For the rest, the mechanics did an excellent job, with more than remarkable times. We are not yet up to the best in terms of absolute performance and we have to work hard to reach them, especially on tracks where aerodynamic efficiency makes the difference. We are recovering but we need to do more and everyone in Maranello is absolutely determined to achieve this objective” concluded Fry.
