Michael Schumacher: “I'm not the greatest”

Michael Schumacher has put an end to the debate about whether he is the strongest driver to ever race. And the answer is “no”. With 91 victories and seven world championships won, Michael Schumacher is, at least statistically, the best driver to ever compete in F1.

But given that Michael was never able to race against Juan Manuel Fangio, winner of 5 titles, and that he only played two full seasons against Ayrton Senna, who instead achieved 3 world championship laurels, the debate whether Schumacher is the best is always open.

And now the German pilot himself has spoken out about it.

“No, you should only be referring to F1, because there are so many different categories,” he replied to CNN, when asked if he was “the best driver or the best F1 driver”.

“If you think about sports cars, the DTM… my brother races those cars, I tested them, there is no way I could have the success I had in F1, I didn't have the right feeling”.

Another question that has always surrounded the German since his early days in Formula 1 is whether he is "prepared to win at all costs".

“No, you have to stay within what is allowed, but within what is allowed then yes, I push things to the limit”.
