Rosberg: “Today I was lucky”
The German admitted that Hamilton deserved the victory
Nico Rosberg admitted that Lewis Hamilton deserved to win the Monaco F1 GP. The German went on to win after a team error relegated the Englishman to third place.
“Today I'm very, very happy, for sure, but I also know I've been very lucky,” said Rosberg. “Lewis drove brilliantly and deserved the win. But sometimes that's how it goes in racing and I'm certainly very happy to have achieved the best possible result."
Rosberg has now reduced the gap to Hamilton in the championship to just 10 points: “Yes, but at the same time, I know I was lucky. I will enjoy the moment now but I will have to work hard because Lewis was a bit stronger this weekend. I have to work hard for the next race, that's for sure."
Rosberg was asked why Mercedes didn't call him back to the pits too: “I have no idea, I'm sorry. As always we are in the car and it is very difficult to judge what decisions are made and things like that. It was certainly extremely difficult to manage the restart with these very cold hard tyres. But it worked and I'm ecstatic."
