Horner: Red Bull exhausts overrated by rivals

Christian horner warned rivals of Red Bull that the design of the exhausts from the RB6 it does not bring all the supposed benefit. Just under two weeks ago, in Valencia, Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault fitted the new lower exhausts on their cars, and this weekend at Silverstone McLaren will also bring a series of new updates and among which there is the idea introduced by Adrian Newey on Red Bull.

Some engineers estimate a gain of at least half a second per lap, but Red Bull boss Chris Horner downplayed the predictions.

“Our rivals overestimate the benefits of the new exhausts,” he told German publication Auto Motor und Sport.

“The gain is around two or three tenths,” added the Briton.

Sebastian Vettel thinks the same way.

“Yes, it brings us some advantages, but only if together with the whole package and this includes our rear suspension. And that can't be copied during the season,” she explained.

In his blog on the French site Auto Plus, commentator Jean-Louis Moncet reports that in addition to the new exhausts, the updates that McLaren will bring to Silverstone include a new cooling system, suspension and shock absorbers.

For its part, Ferrari believes that the fast Silverstone track will not suit the characteristics of the F10 well, even though the new section of the Arena includes low-speed hairpin bends.

“The track looks very similar to before, with a lot of fast corners which don't favor our characteristics,” said Fernando Alonso.
