Hill: “Never underestimate Schumacher”

Michael Schumacher he will not give up his fight to return to high levels. This was said by one of the German's great rivals in the 90s, Damon Hill, who does not believe in the rumors of a possible retirement of the seven-time world champion before the three-year contract he has with the Mercedes.

“Never underestimate that guy. I made this mistake. You can't exclude him from the games. He is never out of the game.

“He always finds a way to pull something out of the hat,” said Hill, now president of the group that manages the Silverstone track.

Some critics believe the 41-year-old has lost his desire to excel and no longer has that famous attention to every little detail. According to these people, Schumacher now just wants to drive for fun, but Hill only agrees with the last sentence.

“He loves to drive. Where else can you get the same satisfaction?,” Hill told reporters at Silverstone.

“It's not about money. He is a perfectionist, very determined, and he will want to prove that it is possible to win at 41.”

F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone recently told the German press that criticism of Schumacher is "not fair."

“He's been on holiday for three years, what would you expect after such a long break?,” asked the 79-year-old.
