Formula 1 | Williams, Stroll: “I felt what it felt like to hit rock bottom”
The 19-year-old Canadian looks back on some stages of his 2017: "It was quite tough not completing the first three races"
A complex year, which put the mental strength of Lance stroll. The first season in Formula 1 of the Canadian from Williams was a whirlwind of joys, above all the podium in Baku, and sorrows: “I felt what it felt like to hit rock bottom, but it's already happened in other categories and I got back up: I had the persistence and the desire to improve every day" – said Stroll. “Formula 1 is the most demanding category, so you have to do the best you can, there is little margin for error”.
The three withdrawals remedied in the first three races were a bitter pill to swallow: "After Bahrain it was quite tough" – admitted the former European Formula 3 champion. “I didn't finish the first three races, regardless of whether it was my fault, a mechanical failure or anything else. I also experienced some difficult moments in the winter tests, but I expected it".
Despite everything, the balance remains positive: "I knew I would face adversity at some stages in my first year; they hit me very early. I tried to keep my head down, making sure all this didn't affect me. It was a big challenge the one I accepted: I had fun traveling the world and competing at the highest level”.
