Formula 1 | Tsunoda, redemption target in Portugal
"I learned a lot in Imola," said the Japanese driver
After the many mistakes made in the Imola Grand Prix, Yuki Tsunoda is ready to redeem himself on the Portimao track, scene of the next Portuguese Formula 1 Grand Prix. The Japanese driver from Scuderia AlphaTauri, thanks to the experience gained in the first two rounds of the championship , will try to give important points to the team for the fight for third place in the constructors' championship with Ferrari, Alpine and McLaren. Tsunoda, we remember, has never ridden on the Algarve circuit, which is why he will have to make the most of the three hours of free practice between Friday and Saturday.
“I learned a lot in Imola”, Yuki Tsunoda said. “It was exactly the opposite of Bahrain, it went well there. Both the team and I had very high expectations for that race. Everything went smoothly in free practice, but then I made a big mistake in qualifying and, consequently, the race was tough."
“It's been two years since I had a bad accident, this will serve as a lesson for me,” he continued. “In the race I also had my first experience in the wet on a Formula 1 and using the intermediate tires was really complicated, so I had to gradually increase the speed. We had a competitive car in the first two races, capable of being in the top six. The Portuguese track is new for me and I don't know what to expect, even though I have done a couple of simulator sessions and seen last year's Grand Prix . It's a beautiful circuit, with interesting corners like 1 and 13, as well as lots of ups and downs and blind corners."
“I think it might be difficult because of the track limits, but I will progressively increase my pace. It will be a completely different situation compared to the first two rounds of the season, as I had driven a lot in Bahrain and Imola before the race weekend. I hope to be able to complete as many laps as possible in free practice and adapt quickly to the track, so as to arrive prepared for qualifying." he concluded.
