Fernandes: “I'd like to go racing again”

The founder of Caterham does not rule out a return to F1

Fernandes: “I'd like to go racing again”

Many won't remember him, but for a few years he was at the center of a small F1 team that ended badly. His name is Tony Fernandes and that team was there Caterham, which disappeared from the radar in 2014 due to lack of funding.

A less than glorious story for a team that has never scored points and an entrepreneur, Fernandes, who returned to the matter in an interview with the Russian newspaper Vedomosti.

“It was very difficult to manage everything. I have always been focused but the football and Formula 1 companies need a lot of attention. You need to do it yourself or find someone you can really trust."

“Formula 1 will never be a solitary affair – he continued – you need a parallel business, as McLaren and Ferrari have done. It took too much time and money and I couldn't split my time between Caterham and my airline AirAsia, so we closed the team."

In the future, however, the Malaysian entrepreneur is thinking of returning to the world of racing, perhaps again in F1: “I believe in the car sector and I am evaluating the possibility of developing it and one day, when I finish with Air Asia I will go back to racing. I must admit that I failed, but I would like to try again."
