F1 | Jackie Stewart: “If Hamilton left Mercedes for a non-competitive team it would be a great challenge for him”

England, and more generally the United Kingdom, has its greatest exponent in motorsport in Lewis Hamilton. The five-time world champion has certainly impressed everyone since his debut, showing extraordinary talent, always having competitive cars at his disposal every time he has won a title. “Lewis is not only driving well at the moment, but also has the best team in the world with the most competitive engine at the moment – Stewart told Ad Motorsport. Of course, he is doing very well, you have other dimensions when you are a Formula 1 driver and you can count on a great car. I left Matra to go to March in 1970, that was quite a challenge! If Lewis were to leave Mercedes to go to a less competitive team it would be the same for him. He did very well, but he was also very lucky, having been under the wing of Ron Dennis at McLaren who made him grow to the best of his ability, and in that period the Woking team was the best in Formula 1, together with Ferrari . On the new English drivers? I can only say that it is important to make the most of the skills of their teammates: when I arrived I went with the times of Clark, Brabham, Hill and Bruce McLaren, all top drivers. Here, you learn from them: you watch them, listen to them and try to communicate with them. You have to feel comfortable with everyone, human relationships are very important."
