F1 | Haas, Pietro Fittipaldi: “I want to stay with one foot in Formula 1”

The Brazilian driver would like to compete in IndyCar in 2021 without completely abandoning the top category

F1 | Haas, Pietro Fittipaldi: “I want to stay with one foot in Formula 1”

Pietro Fittipaldi said goodbye to F1 after just two races. The grandson of the champion Emerson did not disfigure himself at the wheel of the Haas as Grosjean's replacement, bringing the American car to the finish line both in Sakhir and in Abu Dhabi, without making any mistakes and with a pace not too far from that of his expert teammate Kevin Magnussen.

Two good tests, for a still young driver, who after a year of inactivity has found himself catapulted into the top category, and who now hopes to return to racing on a stable basis in 2021, while keeping a small door open on F1.

“I'm happy with my performance, if I compare it to Kevin Magnussen - the words of the Brazilian driver who is a Palmeiras fan to whom he dedicated race number 51 - Nothing has been decided yet for 2021. My dream would be to continue as an F1 driver but it is clear that this is not possible next year. It would still be important to keep one foot in F1, but I still want to race. The ideal would be to race in IndyCar while maintaining a role in Formula 1. It would be the best scenario."

From what he has shown, Fittipaldi deserves at least reconfirmation as reserve driver behind the unprecedented Schumacher-Mazepin pairing.
