F1 | Ferrari, Binotto on the last season: "Finishing third is encouraging in view of the next challenge"

Ferrari was the team that significantly improved its performance in 2021 compared to the previous year, where the Cavallino team had been conditioned by the agreement with the Federation regarding the power unit. And so the Red went from sixth place in the 2020 constructors' championship to the lowest step of the world championship podium over McLaren in the season which ended last December 12th in Abu Dhabi.

Ferrari managed to achieve its objective, as stated by TP Mattia Binotto, which was mainly to bring a upgrade in all technical areas. A situation that gives Maranello confidence ahead of the new season, characterized by regulatory changes, even if it will not be easy to completely close the gap to Mercedes and Red Bull.

"Our goals, at least declared at the beginning of 2021, were to try to improve ourselves in all areas, in every single detail – said Binotto, quoted by Formula1.com – We didn't set third place as a final goal for ourselves, we always said that third place will be the simple result of having worked well as a team. Finishing third is encouraging because it is a statement that testifies to the team's progress going in the right direction. I think the result gives us a bit of serenity for the winter period too. 2022 is a completely new, very difficult challenge".

Binotto, completing his analysis, added: “We simply have to have confidence in the work we have done so far, knowing that the gap to the best is still very large. There are two competitors ahead who are very, very strong and we have a car that is not yet good enough, showing that as a team we still need a lot of progress. But finishing third is somehow important for serenity and to show the team's efforts made so far".
