F1 | AlphaTauri, de Vries: “Baku single track, we are making progress”

The start of the seasonAlpha Tauri it was anything but positive. The Faenza team is working hard to try to correct what is in fact the second wrong car in a row after last year. Nyck de Vries he didn't have such a positive impact at least in terms of results, and perhaps the long break helped him to better understand working with the team and train individually in the best possible way. It was also an opportunity to unwind a bit and attend top-class sporting events before the trip to Baku.

“After being at San Siro for Milan-Napoli di Champions League and having witnessed the Master di tennis of Monte Carlo with Tsitsipas, my coach was with me in Munich and we trained a lot there and it was also nice to be able to spend some time at home – de Vries said. Now I'm ready to go again to face five races in six weeks, an intense period awaits us. Baku will be my first Sprint weekend and it will be particularly demanding, with only one hour of free practice available before qualifying. But I have already raced on this track and achieved three second places in Formula 2. We are all excited to get back to racing after this long break."

“The track is quite unique: usually, on street circuits, overtaking is very challenging. But the very long straight offers so many opportunities and this is why the races in Baku have often been eventful. So let's hope that things go well and that in the end we will have something to be happy about. I feel like we are making progress, but the battle in the midfield is still particularly close and fighting for points is quite difficult, because in a 'normal' race the Top 10 is firmly occupied. We must ensure that we are ready to capitalize on any mistakes made by our opponents who are consistently fighting for those positions. Despite the steps forward, Baku requires a lot of speed on the straight and so far we have not been so competitive in this respect. Let's wait and see how it goes."
