Lynn: “Verstappen? He should have stayed in F3"

According to Alex Lynn, Red Bull talent and reigning GP3 Series champion, Max Verstappen arrived in Formula One by missing too many steps. In an interview given to Autosport International, the Frenchman from Dams explained that moving directly from F3 to Formula One could prove to be a very risky choice, especially if you haven't managed to gain the right experience inside a single-seater. Lynn, obviously, welcomed the Dutchman's promotion with a lot of bitterness, given that the GP3 title allowed him to aim for the second Toro Rosso seat, but he is confident in a good 2015 to still be on the grid in two seasons.

Here are the words of Alex Lynn: “I think that this year of motorsport, if it has taught me anything, has made me understand that I can no longer be surprised by anything. What do I think of Verstappen? In my opinion he should have done another year in F3, then he should have done GP2 and then F1, but there is no doubt that he has the qualities to be in F1. It took me a while to digest the thing, Toro Rosso was my goal and when I heard about Max, specifically in Spa, I sat in the car very disappointed and thought, 'Well, I don't want to continue anymore, I'm leaving. I go". But then I thought about it. I thought that all I wanted to do was win GP3 beyond everything, and that's what I wanted to do at that moment. Verstappen or no Verstappen”.

Alex then spoke about GP2 and his personal goals for the 2015 season: “I think I decided to take that seat because I don't think Red Bull would have wanted to put me there. This year I want to win the championship. I want to become a Formula 1 driver, and if I can win the championship in the first year I think it would be something great and I think someone then might give me a chance."

“When you join a team like DAMS you expect to do very well. I don't think they hired me to do a year of apprenticeship, they expect me to win" he concluded.
