Hamilton: “Few laps but a constructive Friday”

Despite the few laps due to inclement weather, there were two positive free practice sessions for Lewis Hamilton on Friday at the Australian GP.

Hamilton was fastest in both sessions in his Mercedes W07 Hybrid and the English driver said he was lucky to have completed a few laps on the Pirellis in dry conditions when the track was at its best, before the rain increased in intensity.

Hamilton delayed his entry into the second session until the track was at its best again and completed just seven laps, setting the fastest time on intermediate tyres.

“It was a good day,” Hamilton said. “The car performed well and although we didn't do many laps, they were still two constructive sessions. I was lucky to do a few laps in the dry to get an idea of the feeling, and the impression is positive, thanks to the good work of the team. Overall, I'm excited to be here and back behind the wheel. When I was sitting in the garage, I was like a child waiting to open his presents for Christmas. Let's hope it's dry tomorrow so we can do many laps and repay the fans who were brave today."
