Rosberg: “Negative start to the weekend”

Nico Rosberg is disappointed after the accident in Free Practice 2 of the Australian F1 GP. The German hit the wall in the wet during the second session on his fifth lap, damaging the front wing of his Mercedes W07.

The German had finished the first session in sixth position, failing to set a time when the track was in the best conditions before the rain returned, while in Free Practice 2 he damaged the new front wing.

“It wasn't a good start to the weekend for me,” said Rosberg. “The track was very wet and the grip was precarious. It's a shame we lost the car in Free Practice 2. I pushed too hard on the accelerator at Turn 7, spun and hit the wall. My front wing was very damaged, so unfortunately the guys will have to do some extra work tonight. My apologies to them and a big thank you for their hard work. Now I look to qualifying and the race to offer a better performance."
