McLaren: introduced a major aerodynamic update at the Austrian GP

Despite the major problems suffered by the Power Unit also on Friday, on Fernando Alonso's car, the new aerodynamic package was introduced in Free Practice 2 which includes a short nose version and a bottom with several innovations, above all, in the area near the rear tires.

The new short nose of the Mclaren, very similar to the Red Bull version (and perhaps a hair to the Williams one) designed by the Cypriot designer Peter Prodromou (ex Red Bull), maximizes the air flow in the lower part and optimizes the flows in the direction of the rear part of the car.

In addition to the nose, the front wing was also slightly modified which, in the version used by Fernando, was equipped, as you can see from the comparison below, with additional flaps with differences in the shape and size of the chord.

The surface near the rear wheels has completely changed:

– introduced two longitudinal slots useful for diverting the flow under the diffuser and outside the rear tire

– two L-shaped slots of different sizes have been introduced, which are also useful for limiting the negative effects created by the interaction between the counter flow created by the reverse movement and the direction of forward movement from the rear tyres.
