Honda, Hasegawa: “Free development gives us more possibilities”

The Japanese are looking for continuity for the 2017 project

Honda, Hasegawa: “Free development gives us more possibilities”

Starting next season the development system will be removed Power Unit with "tokens", leaving the engineers free to work freely on your hybrid drive.

Each single element of the Power Unit required a certain number of tokens to be developed and this limited the engineers, as the tokens that could be used during the season were limited. With the change in regulation according to Yusuke Hasegawa, project Manager Honda in Form 1, some barriers will be broken down which will give more freedom: “Without the tokens we can look for areas to improve and we can decide which areas to change. This gives us more freedom".

2017 must be a turning point for Honda to be able to get considerably closer to its rivals: the doubt that has haunted the Japanese company in recent months was whether to completely modify the project, starting from scratch, or whether to maintain the current configuration and size zero”: “Since the beginning of the year our performance has improved constantly, therefore we will maintain this configuration for next year too. Next season's engine will be an evolution of this year's, it won't be a completely different project. If we compare our engine to that of our opponents, our chances of improving are greater” concluded Hasegawa.
