Formula 1 | Alpine, de Meo: “Alonso has taken on the role of leader within the team”

The latest drivers' market marked Fernando Alonso's return to Formula One after two years of absence. Speaking about the two-time world champion, Renault CEO Luca de Meo admitted how the Asturian agreed to take the team on his shoulders, underlining once again his leadership qualities.

"He has the ambition to lead the entire team – de Meo declared to Sky – At the beginning of the season I asked him to take on this leadership role, I think he's doing it very well. He has a lot of experience but also a high level. Everyone in Formula 1 knows that he is a pure and also ambitious driver, this makes him demanding".

Then speaking about the purely sporting aspects, de Meo expressed the objectives that the Enstone team aspires to in 2021: "I would be happy if we got some podiums, something more than last year. But what would make me really happy is to see a very strong team that is progressing. We want to prepare for next season by looking for solutions that will allow us to be truly competitive".
