F1 | Toro Rosso, Gasly: “I am an example: I arrived in Formula 1 without paying”

The pride of having arrived in Formula 1 without any recommendation emerges clearly in the last interview granted by Pierre Gasly ad Motorsport: “I didn't have a manager, I was alone fighting all the big sharks in this paddock, trying to take my place” – says the Toro Rosso driver. "I'm really happy I did it without having a manager and without paying. Today it's quite difficult to do it, but it's good for young drivers to see that it's still possible. It's not just about money: it is possible to do it without”. The 21-year-old Frenchman arrived last September in Toro Rosso in place of Daniil Kvyat and participated in the last GPs of 2017, earning confirmation for next season too.

Gasly, therefore, considers himself an example to follow, even if the wait, in some phases, was rather unnerving, among GP2, Super Formula and the experience as a third driver in Red Bull: “It kind of made me a lot stronger mentally than I was in the past. For me, there are no bad experiences, you always learn something, good or bad – there are always things to take with you. It's been a long journey, but with many good and useful experiences for me”.
