F1 | The new proposal: award points up to twelfth position

The F1 Commission will discuss a proposal, submitted by the smaller teams but also supported by Red Bull, to expand the awarding of race points from tenth to twelfth position. Six teams must vote in favor of a possible concrete proposal for 2025.

“The competition is tough - said Red Bull team principal Christian Horner to the Bild newspaper - two groups have been formed: the top 5 and then the teams from sixth to tenth place. Every single point is fought hard. Of course, in the end, you have to ask yourself what would really change, but I'm completely impartial. But, of course, points involve money, so I understand the concern.”

Racing Bulls driver Yuki Tsunoda spoke out against the proposal:

“If more drivers score points, you're not as motivated. Now, being ninth or tenth for us is equivalent to a victory. I would be happy if we continued like this", commented the Japanese to Sport1.

More risky, however, is the proposal made by Haas driver Kevin Magnussen who would award points to every driver who reaches the finish line:

“Maybe give points to everyone, fifty for the first and then distribute them. Nothing will change at the top, but it would make the races more interesting for the last five positions."
