F1 | Racing Point, Nico Hulkenberg: “This Formula 1 season is incredible!”

You know, we know superheroes, and as such, the Incredible Hulk likes to appear when needed, unexpectedly, causing a stir: and that's exactly how it went today too, after Racing Point made it known that Lance Stroll would not be able to get on track this weekend.

The Canadian, who was waiting in the pits yesterday, is not feeling very well, feeling so unwell that he was forced to give up his seat. And once again, Nico Hulkenberg has arrived to the rescue of the pink panther: the German pilot was having a coffee with a friend this morning, when the fateful call came, and he answered promptly. Nico entered the paddock around 13pm, now at the end of the only free practice session held by his colleagues. Hulk tested the Nurburgring track only at the start of Q1, practically making two attempts for the fastest lap. Obviously, the lack of experience on the track and the lack of confidence with the car did not allow Nico to repeat the feat of Silverstone, when he instead replaced Sergio Perez, who tested positive for Covid-19. Our incredible Hulk will start from twentieth position, but who knows, maybe the crazy weather conditions tomorrow might help him in another undertaking. What is certain is that Hulkenberg, despite today's poor result, continues to be among those drivers worthy of his name, and it is really a shame that we can only see him on the track again for unpleasant occasions, such as Stroll's illness.

"Well, this one really needs to be told in the books! – began the German, still surprised – It's definitely been an interesting F1 season. I received the call from Otmar at 11: I was sitting having a coffee with a friend. I got in my car and ran here as fast as I could. I did all the checks required for Covid, and only had about forty minutes to chat with the engineers before getting in the car for qualifying.

"Obviously the result wasn't the best, but I had fun and collected the necessary data – explained Hulk – I know the track, it's been a while since F1 raced here, and the RP20 has grown a lot compared to Silverstone. I went to the track, I became familiar with the car, the grip, I found my limits as fast as possible. Doing all this in just a few laps is absurd, but it's a great experience. I will assimilate everything and get back in the car tomorrow, to race and do my best for this unexpected home grand prix".
